It’s Kind of Like Cutting Through Air

My favorite scissors have a weight in my hand that feels good to me. They have black handles and metal blades. I use them to cut carbon paper which I use to make marks on paper.

I rip a bunch of similarly sized pieces of paper. Then I pick one up and lay a piece of carbon paper over it. I position the upper left corner of the carbon paper with a slight margin inside the paper. Then I cut across the carbon paper with my scissors, eyeballing the margin I want, just inside, so the bottom bit of paper shows as I cut the carbon. Carbon paper is flimsy. My scissors are not. It’s kind of like cutting through air.

I put the paper down on my table and position my cut carbon just so. Then I pick an image, the one that wants to be drawn. How do you know which one wants to be drawn? Well that’s an exercise in figuring out what you like and what likes you. It’s a yes that always takes you some place new.
