Get to Know Yourself

You think to yourself you are drawing circles on paper. Spirals. How on earth is this necessary. But that is a distraction. You keep going because creativity offers us a way to get to know ourselves. A way to work with what we love and dislike in our lives.

A way to take the things of our life, what we notice, what we aspire to, what we see and hear and long for and bring them into some kind of shape. We make meaning of them. In a poem, a book, a picture, a movie. A mathematical formula. A chair.

We learn that we can bring an idea into form. Make something that is made up of other things. Something that has never before existed, could not exist except through us.
